A science table takes shape long before it reaches a classroom. Its dimensions, component fit, joints, and finish all depend on decisions made during production. At PEPCO, our published manufacturing process gives schools a closer look at how we turn materials into educational furniture. For educators planning a new room, that process helps connect a classroom requirement with the furniture built to serve it.
Manufacturing around the room
We began producing science and art tables in 1989. Our process page describes U.S.-based manufacturing and computer-controlled equipment used to fabricate table tops and frames. We also produce casework, service islands, peninsulas, mobile labs, and storage cabinets. These capabilities allow a conversation about the whole room rather than an isolated table order.
Consider a classroom with an existing column or a narrow teaching area. Before production begins, the school should identify the available footprint and explain how students will use the space. A custom dimension is useful only when it responds to a measured requirement. Share room drawings, furniture quantities, and the intended activities so the design discussion starts with a clear brief.
Precision cutting and component fit
Our cutting stage prepares wood and other components for the required shapes and sizes. We then move into gluing and binding, followed by finishing and assembly. These are distinct steps in our published process, each contributing to the completed piece.
For a project team, the practical question is how the specified dimensions carry through to the finished furniture. Review the proposed table size alongside seating, nearby casework, and circulation. Ask which dimensions can be customized and which components remain standard. This makes the manufacturing discussion specific to the room the school is actually furnishing.
Finishing before delivery
Our finishing stage includes sanding, polishing, cleaning, and finishing components. Once assembly is complete, our team coordinates delivery with the customer. Use that coordination step to clarify the school’s receiving arrangements and the agreed setup responsibilities.
Delivery and installation should be defined separately in the project scope. Agree on who receives the shipment, where furniture is staged, and who checks the final placement. A school arranging its own setup will need a different handover plan from one requesting professional installation.
Bring a clear brief to PEPCO
Start with the room dimensions, student age group, expected activities, surface requirements, and target installation window. Include photographs of the existing space when available. Those details give our team a useful starting point for discussing tables and coordinated furniture.
